Herbal medicine has a unique ability to stimulate the body’s natural healing potential rather than simply mask unpleasant symptoms; it encourages the body to heal itself, bringing back a sense of whole-body balance and harmony, connecting you to your true self. To maximise and capture the real essence and healing potential of each plant, I use organic herbal extracts where possible.

How do you become a Medical Herbalist is a question I’ve been asked many times. There are many different paths. Mine stemmed from a love of nature, with the outdoors being my ‘safe-space’ where I’d always retreat to if I felt the need for clarity or time to recharge. But I’d also suffered with serious anxiety and depression as a teenager, which I later discovered was caused by long-term prescription medicine.

When I realised that the way I’d been feeling for so long wasn’t actually ‘me’, I decided to look for healthier, long-term solutions to support my health and wellbeing. My interest in the natural world led me to study for a first degree in Plant Biology. During my studies I worked with, and received treatment from, a local herbalist who supported me throughout the four years that followed. On completion,  I made a decision to pursue further training and applied for a Herbal Medicine degree course in Lincoln. Those next three years were a real journey of discovery into the healing world of plants.

After graduating from Lincoln, I spent the next seven years working for an organic herbal tea company based in Somerset. I became part of their herbal team where I trained and educated people in the benefits of natural medicine. During this time I also began building a small private practice in Dorset where I developed a keen interest in supporting those with anxiety based conditions, treating depression, stress and trauma.

I started to notice that many of my patients used the well-known ‘Bach Rescue Remedy’ as an extra support. This led me on a journey into learning more about the benefits of each of the 38 individual Bach Flower remedies and how they treat specific emotional states.

The Bach flower remedies are unrivalled in their ability to support individuals through periods of emotional challenge and distress; they help us to see how we might navigate a clear path through the storm.  They are versatile in their ability to work alongside conventional and herbal medicines and are also safe for children and in pregnancy.

I’m now a fully trained Bach Flower practitioner,  after having completed the practitioner level training at the Bach centre based in Oxford. I’m due to complete my teacher training in 2021. After the birth of my daughter in 2019 I made the decision to leave my role at the tea company and focus on building the foundations of my own private herbal medicine practice, now based in Somerset.

My treatments often use a combination of both herbal and flower remedies but they can also be used as separate treatments. Herbal medicine is very physical in its treatment potential, often used to deal with clear physical symptoms and can positively support every body system. The Bach flower remedies work on a purely emotional level, targeting specific emotional states such as trauma or anxiety.

I am a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH) and a Bach Flower Registered Practitioner (BFRP).   Consultations can take place in person or by Skype, Zoom, What’s App or Phone. They involve an in-depth discussion covering aspects of physical and emotional health, including diet and lifestyle. All treatment plans and remedies are detailed in full during a consultation before dispensing.
